Webnet mesh railings
Stainless rope mesh infill for balconies, stairs, galleries and bridges: child-safe, hard to climb and almost invisible.
Acier projectOverviewWhat it is
Webnet is Jakob’s stainless steel rope mesh, laced into the railing frame or onto edge ropes. Its small diamond openings stop a child, a pet or a dropped object, and the mesh follows stairs, curves and voids where cables and glass cannot.
We use AISI 316 Webnet, usually Ø2 mm rope with a 40 to 60 mm mesh, in stainless, MS or aluminium frames or on a rope framework. On the walkway bridge in Panjim it is Ø2 / W 50 mm in stainless frames; at Third Space, Udaipur, more than 100 m of gallery railing is Ø2 / W 60 mm.
Options
Plan itWebnet railing drawing or planner
Enter the run, the height and the post spacing, and choose the mesh and how it is held: in tube frames, as on the Panjim bridge, or laced between the posts on an edge rope, as at Third Space. The sheet, details and quantities update as you go. Switch to Planner to see the mesh itself to scale.

Walkway bridge, Panjim
A waterside pedestrian bridge in Panjim, Goa, with AISI 316 Webnet railings, Ø2 mm with a 50 mm mesh, that keep people safe without closing the view.

Webnet railings, Third Space, Udaipur
About 1,300 m² of Webnet in railings, stair enclosures and tower nets at Third Space, a science centre in Udaipur designed by Studio SAAR, handed over in July 2024.

Webnet terrace railing, private residence, Udaipur
A Webnet railing around the terrace of a private residence in Udaipur designed by Studio SAAR, safe at the edge and open to the view.

Mesh balcony, Mumbai
In a Mumbai apartment without balconies, a stainless frame with Webnet makes an open space outside the window, strong enough to sit and lie on, instead of an MS grill.
QuestionsFrequently asked
Is a Webnet railing safe for children?
Yes. A W 40 to 60 mm mesh is far smaller than the 100 mm sphere the codes test with, it gives no foothold, and it cannot be pushed apart the way cables can. It is our usual answer where children use the space.
How is the mesh fixed to the railing?
The net is centred in its frame or edge ropes, tied at the corners and all round, then laced with a Ø1 to 2 mm stainless rope through every edge mesh. The lacing sleeve is swaged, so nothing comes loose.
Will it rust near the sea?
No. Webnet is AISI 316 stainless steel, the grade we use on waterfronts such as the Panjim walkway bridge. A Duplex version resists corrosion even better on the coast.

Cable railings and the 100 mm rule
Why rope spacing alone does not make a cable railing safe, and how posts, pretension and fittings keep the gap closed under load.

SS 304 or 316? Stainless steel near the coast
Why 316 stainless steel is the safer choice for railings and ropes in Mumbai and other coastal cities, and where 304 is enough.
