A Webnet railing around the terrace of a private residence in Udaipur designed by Studio SAAR, safe at the edge and open to the view.

01The brief
Studio SAAR, the architects of Third Space in Udaipur, worked with Acier again on a private residence in the same city. Around the terrace, Webnet forms a railing that keeps the view of the garden and the hills. Acier delivered it in 2024.
02The challenge
The railing had to stop falls along a curved edge between round columns without blocking the view, and last outdoors through Udaipur's hot summers and monsoon rain.
03The solution
The railing uses Jakob Webnet in Ø2 mm stainless rope with a 60 mm mesh width, on a framework of Jakob Ø6 mm ropes. The ropes and fittings are stainless, so nothing rusts or stains.
Around the terrace, the Webnet runs between the columns, held on stainless ropes and clamped to each column with stainless bands. Webnet is flexible, so it follows the curve of the terrace edge as one net. The open diamond mesh keeps the view of the garden and the hills from the terrace.

04The outcome
The terrace edge is safe without a wall, and the view stays open. Together with the railings and stair nets at Third Space, it shows the same mesh at work in a public building and a private home.
