Stainless cable railings for Panchshil at YOO Villas, Pune: inside the villas in 2019, and along the landscaped clubhouse stair in 2022.

01The brief
Panchshil asked Acier for cable railings at YOO Villas in Pune, first inside the villas and later along the landscaped stair at the clubhouse. In both places the railing had to keep people safe while leaving the architecture and the planting in view. Acier supplied and installed the ropes, fittings and posts for both: the villa railings in 2019 and the clubhouse stair in 2022.
02The challenge
An outdoor stair in Pune sees strong sun, monsoon rain and constant use by residents and guests. The railing has to stay tight, clean and safe through all of it, with no rust stains on the finishes around it. It also needs to sit lightly in a landscaped setting, where a solid balustrade would feel heavy and cut the stair off from the planting. Inside the villas, the same railing had to suit finished homes, where every fitting is seen at close range.
03The solution
A stainless cable railing does this with very little material. Tensioned Jakob ropes between stainless posts create a barrier that is easy to see through, so the landscape carries on past the stair. The ropes are Ø4 mm inside the bungalows, where they are seen up close, and Ø6 mm outdoors, where the runs are longer and the railing takes more use.
Each rope has external-thread ends and a turnbuckle, so its tension is set at installation and can be adjusted later. The posts are stainless steel with a 50 mm round handrail. Stainless steel suits a residential development in Pune: it does not need painting, and it stays clean with basic care.

04The outcome
The villas and the clubhouse stair now share one railing detail that keeps people safe and leaves the setting in view. From a distance the ropes almost disappear, and close up they give a clean, precise edge. Cable railings like this suit any stair where the setting matters as much as the safety.
